The Botox Craze For 20-Somethings
Picture this…you are in your mid to late twenties, the prime of your young adulthood some would say. Everything is flawless, tight, and on point, right? But one day a random co-worker of yours suggests that the little lines around your mouth, and between your brows should be taken care of. What?! You probably want to tell her where to go stick her opinion, but you know that the next time you looked in a mirror those baby lines became huge in your mind. All of a sudden you are worried you look old. Are you going to become one of those 20-somethings ready to be a part of the Botox craze?
What Is Botox?
Botox is very popular injectable that freezes the muscle under a wrinkle or fine line. The goal is to make the line appear less noticeable, or relaxed to a certain degree. There is a theory going around that says that if you do this younger, like in your 20’s or 30’s, then you can prevent deeper wrinkles later on by almost permanently disabling the muscle making the spot smoother overall. Keep in mind that Botox is not inexpensive. Once you start doing it, you have to keep going back for more injections every 4-6 months because it wears off over time. It also costs thousands of dollars per year. If you live somewhere such as Los Angeles or New York City you might find that more people in their twenties are having this done, but it’s even traveling in trend to the middle of America in states such as Texas, Illinois, or even in Ohio. Blame it on the popularity of such reality shows like “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” or any of those “housewives” shows.
So Is It True?
A variety of dermatologists, and plastic surgeons are mixed on their opinions of this theory. Some say that for people with strong facial muscles, or excessive early sun damage they could benefit from freezing the facial muscle to prevent further contractions which lead to wrinkles. Glabellar lines are especially popular to treat because everyone hates when they get that deep line between their brows. Yet, other doctors say that there isn’t any research in the world to suggest that getting Botox done early will prevent wrinkles.
Here’s The Best Wrinkle Prevention Plan
The absolute best wrinkle prevention plan is two-fold. Three-fold, really. First, use a daily sunscreen everyday without fail of at least an SPF 30. Second, engage in healthy habits by eating a well balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and staying away from excessive amounts of alcohol and cigarettes which aid in killing off youthful cells in your body that keep you bright and healthy. Third, exercise 3-4 days a week for at least 45 minutes to keep your circulation going, because it will benefit you in many ways. The best of which is keeping you looking younger and healthier for as long as possible well into your later years.
